Ellison has served as Minnesota’s attorney general since 2019. He led the team that successfully convicted former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on murder charges for the May 2020 death of George Floyd. Before becoming attorney general, Ellison served in Congress for 12 years. He was the first Muslim to be elected to that body and the first African American to represent Minnesota in Congress.
