McGroarty joined the Cap Times in May 2023. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from UW-Madison and an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree in journalism, history and political science from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Prior to relocating to Madison for her graduate degree, McGroarty worked as a policy and government reporter for more than three years, producing award-winning coverage of Alaska’s Legislature and congressional delegation.
