A Madison native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Punzel has worked 44 years for newspapers in Green Bay, Stevens Point, Boise and the last 37 years in Madison, first for the Cap Times and then the Wisconsin State Journal. He has covered Wisconsin volleyball since 2013.
