U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland made international headlines in April 2025, when he flew to El Salvador to seek the release of a wrongly deported constituent by the Trump administration. Since then, the senator has emerged as one of Capitol Hill’s most ardent advocates for presidential accountability, new approaches to foreign policy, and strategies for reforming the Senate and the Supreme Court. That has led progressive groups to mention him as a potential Senate leader and inspired talk of a 2028 presidential bid. He’ll draw on his deep experience to put the politics of 2026 and 2028 into perspective.
