Oates has been a co-host of the weekly Cap Times podcast since its creation in September 2023. Prior to that, he worked at the Wisconsin State Journal for 40 years. He covered high school sports at first and then later the Packers and the UW Badgers men’s basketball team. He became a full-time columnist in 1995 and retired in 2020.
