Burris was elected to Madison’s City Council in 2023 to represent District 12 on the city’s east side. Outside of city government, her resume includes work in research and advising, policy development, issues advocacy, coalition building, and grassroots outreach for multiple organizations including the National Urban League, the NAACP, and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
