McGroarty joined the Cap Times in May 2023 and covers politics and government. She holds an M.A. in journalism from UW-Madison and an interdisciplinary B.A. in journalism, history and political science from University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Prior to relocating to Madison for her graduate degree, McGroarty worked as a policy and government reporter for more than three years in Interior Alaska, producing award-winning coverage of Alaska’s Legislature and congressional delegation.
